A Robust Security Strategy

UserID/Password – Capable of storing as many as 400 passwords, the Series 2000 may be configured to operate either with or without a password prompt.

Retry limits – Designed to foil the conventional trial-and error approach to unauthorized access.

Caller ID Verification – The Caller ID feature requires that a caller's telephone number be present in the modem's database. Non-registered numbers will not receive modem supervision.

Closed User Groups – Built-in challenge/response algorithms may be enabled to create closed user groups of security modems.

Automatic Call Back – Series 2000 can be configured to initiate a call back to a users modem, insuring that access is originating from known terminals or locations.

Password Aging – Insures that passwords are changed on a specified schedule.

Enforced Syntax – Implements password policies with regards to alpha, numeric, and control type characters.

Audit Trail with Precision Time Keeping – With the audit trail facilities of Series 2000, there is never a question about who has gained access or who has tried to gain access to your installation. All attempts to access a Series 2000 device are stored in a nonvolatile audit trail along with the date and time.

Remote Configuration – The remote configuration facilities of Series 2000 modems allow you to remotely maintain passwords, review the audit trail or modify any parameter of the device. Additional configuration commands allow you to select DTE bit rate, character length and parity. Remote configuration access may be restricted to specific passwords.

Series 2000 offers the widest range of dial up security options available today. The three primary defense mechanisms, Password/User ID, Caller ID authentication, and Call Back can be combined to provide a high level of user authentication that meets the business needs of the enterprise. Support for 400 password/User ID combinations augmented by prompt-less authentication, password aging, password policy enforcement, and an extensive audit trail capability creates a secure operating environment for your remote management connections.

The Series 2000 can be remotely managed over a dial-up connection. Using this feature users can modify logins, passwords, Caller ID validations, and can access and monitor audit trails, all from one central location.

Remote access modems offer significant cost savings and reduce network downtime by eliminating the need to dispatch personnel to remote sites to reconfigure alarm and control systems, phone switches, diagnostic ports, remote access servers, and supervisory channels. However, these benefits come with the risk that unauthorized access to remote facilities could disrupt your network and cripple your business operations.

With the Series 2000 family of remote access modems, it is no longer necessary to accept the security risk
associated with unprotected remote access installations.

Series 2000 provides the full range of advanced modem features found in our Series 1000 family, combined with a comprehensive set of security and access control features. Series 2000 implements the full range of security features defined in the Bellcore Local Access and Transport Area LATA Switching Systems Generic Requirements (LSSGR) in a cost effective industrial package.

Advanced Security Features If you are managing highly secure remote access points, Series 2000 modems offer the most advanced security features available. Now you can access remote configuration, diagnostic, console ports, and supervisory
and control channels over secure connections. With the Series 2000, password protection, the cornerstone of most security strategies, can be augmented with a wide range of features and options. These features can be used to implement the multi-faceted type of access control recommended by most security experts. In addition, a comprehensive audit trail provides a historical view of access attempts, allowing your security personnel to identify “at risk” facilities.
